Atlanta-Based Robotics Firm Announces New Crane Control Product
CAMotion Inc. provides automation and motion control solutions for electric overhead traveling (EOT) cranes. These solutions include technologies for automatic load positioning, collision prevention, and an anti-sway technology enabling novice crane operators to perform as well as their experienced counterparts. The control features are referred to in the CAMotion literature as AutoMoveTM, SafeMoveTM, and ExpertOperatorTM, respectively.
Recently, the Atlanta-based company augmented their product offerings for the EOT crane market to include a machine-vision based technology called CraneVisionTM.
CraneVision consists of machine vision hardware, combined with sophisticated software, that visually monitors the state of the crane and surrounding workspace. When enabled, CraneVision can detect and automatically compensate for a variety of adverse hoisting situations, such as off-center lifts, and excessive hook swing. CraneVision can also detect when an operator is attempting to manipulate a payload by physically grabbing the load or hook.
Khalid Sorensen, Control Systems Engineer, and the director of the crane division at CAMotion, describes the purpose of CraneVision as being “a tool for increasing the safety of lifts and simplifying positioning tasks.” Safety is increased because off-center lifts, commonly referred to as “side-pull” lifts are detected and automatically prevented. Positioning tasks are simplified because with CraneVision an operator can move the crane simply by pushing or pulling on the payload.
CAMotion's CraneVision has been extremely well received in the heavy equipment manufacturing industry, where cranes are used extensively for production. Sorensen: “It seems that prevention of side-pull lifts, and the ability to manipulate the load by pushing on it is quite beneficial.”
CAMotion hosts several crane technology demonstrations monthly near their head quarters, in Atlanta, GA. For more information about crane control solutions, or to schedule a product demonstration, contact CAMotion.
